Pakistan Wants More Gas from Iran

Pakistan has raised its demand for natural gas imports from Iran to 30 million cubic meters (mcm) per day, deputy minister of petroleum and managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Javad Owji announced.

He said that negotiations have started with the Pakistani side to that effect and in case of an agreement, an appendix will be attached to the current contract, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

“Iran as a reliable source of energy is able to meet energy needs of not only neighboring countries but remote markets”, Owji added.

Owji said: “In Iran side the length of the pipeline is 1220 kilometers of which 900 kilometers, from Assaluyeh to Iranshahr is complete while from the remaining 320 kilometers to Pakistan border, construction of 80 kilometers is over. “

In Pakistan, the length of the pipeline is estimated at 780 kilometers, which mainly will be built by an Iranian contractor.
