Pemex breaks off jack-up rig contract

Mexican state-owned oil company Pemex has terminated a contract for the jack-up drilling rig Deep Driller 1 three months ahead of its original expiry. 

The jack-up rig’s owner is Deep Drilling 1 and it is managed by the offshore drilling contractor Aban Offshore.

Deep Drilling 1 said on Tuesday it received a notice from Pemex purporting to exercise its contractual rights to terminate the charter for the jack-up rig Deep Driller 1 effective June 1, 2016. Aban secured the contract for a firm period of 1005 days, starting in 3Q 2013 and ending in December 2015, in May 2013.

According to the rig’s owner, the termination comes approximately 3 months prior to its original expiry.

Deep Driller 1 is a Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 jack‐up rig built in 2006 by Sembcorp Marine’s PPL Shipyard in Singapore.
