Pemex planning USD 6 bln liquefaction project

Pemex of Mexico said it plans to develop a $6 billion liquefaction project on the Pacific coast, first of its kind in the country.

Until now, Mexico has only been importing LNG via its three terminals and with this project the country would join the club of LNG exporters.

The planned  LNG export facility is the second phase of Pemex’s Trans-Oceanic belt project that will connect the Pajaritos complex in Veracruz to the Salina Cruz oil refinery in Oaxaca, director of Pemex Gas Alejandro Martinez Sibaja said.

Pemex will begin technical studies this month to establish the best location around Salina Cruz for the liquefaction plant.

The start of operations of the LNG export project is estimated for 2020. Pemex also said it is looking for partners for the project.
