Perla Del Caribe fuels up with LNG

General Dynamics NASSCO recently completed the first bunkering of liquefied natural gas for the Perla Del Caribe, the LNG-powered containership built for TOTE.

Bunkering services were provided by Clean Energy Fuels, Baker Hughes and Envent in an operation that lasted 48 hours at NASSCO’s San Diego shipyard, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

The second LNG-powered vessel in a two-ship contract between NASSCO and TOTE, Perla Del Caribe, received 210,000 gallons of liquefied natural gas.

Once delivered the vessel will join the Isla Bella, the first LNG-powered containership that was launched in October, on the trade route between Jacksonville, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
