Peru: Anadarko signs deals for three offshore blocks

President of Peru has presided over the signing of exploration and production deals with Anadarko Petroleum for exploration activities offshore Peru.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Energy and Mines said that the President of Peru, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, presided over the signing of exploration and production contracts for three offshore blocks with Anadarko.

The ceremony was also attended by the regional governor of Lambayeque Humberto Acuña Peralta, the president of PeruPetro Francisco García Calderón, and the representative of the company Anadarko, Ernie Leyendecker.

“In Peru, we have been slow in our oil policy in the last 30 to 40 years, with contracts difficult to execute and that is trying to improve,” said President Kuczynski during a ceremony held in the Government Palace.

Kuczynski said that this was the first time in our country that the exploration of hydrocarbons in deepwater, 1,000 meters deep on the western coast of the Pacific.

He also pointed out that Anadarko would make an investment of 200 million dollars, which represents an important contribution to revive the economy.

On September 18, the executive branch of PeruPetro approved license contracts with Anadarko in blocks Z-61, Z-62, and Z-63, located off the coast of Lambayeque and La Libertad.

Block Z-61 is located on the continental shelf off the coast of the provinces of Chiclayo, as well as Chepén, Pacasmayo, and Ascope.

The second block, Z-62, is located off the coast of the provinces of Ascope and Trujillo while Block Z-63 is located off the coast of the provinces of Trujillo and Virú.

“One of the independent oil companies consistently ranked within the top 50 companies in the Energy Intelligence Top 100, has decided to invest in Peru, attracted by the hydrocarbons potential and the favorable economic conditions of the country, ratifying that Peru remains an attractive destiny for investment,” said PeruPetro.

According to PeruPetro, the entrance of a new operator in Peru will open a new horizon in deepwater exploration.

The regulator also stated that deepwater exploration in the northern region could make a positive contribution to the economic and technological development of the mentioned region.

“These three new contracts confirm the interest of large oil companies to invest in hydrocarbons, and the most important, ratify that Peru in an attractive destiny of foreign investment,” added PeruPetro.
