Philippines: Puerto Princesa Prepares for Big Ships

Puerto Princesa Prepares for Big Ships

Four large international cruise ships are set to arrive this summer at the Puerto Princesa City, the City Tourism Department recently reported.

Tourism officer Rebecca Labit said the cruise ships would arrive every week in March until the first week of April with over 2,000 passengers. One of the luxury liners will be the Royal Carribean’s Legend of the Seas, which made its inaugural call on the ports of Manila and Boracay last October 26–27 as part of the vessel’s eight-night Southeast Asia itinerary.

“Tourism handlers confirmed that the Royal Carribean’s Legend of the Seas is arriving, which is big because its passengers are in a thousand, and probably more,” Labit told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Manager Luis Cuison of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has informed the city government and the CTD that the dredging at the pier is finished to accommodate larger vessels, such as the cruise ships.

Additional facilities are due for construction by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) in preparation for the coming of more cruise ships all year round.
