Petrofac has just sent us two high resolution renders of its newly ordered Petrofac JSD 6000 deepwater derrick lay vessel.

The vessel, designed by Ulstein Sea of Solutions, will be built by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co., Ltd (ZPMC) in China . It will be ready for construction and installation activities in early 2017. The vessel, described by Petrofac as “the best-in-class multi-purpose vessel”, is based on a unique innovative design which integrates the J-Lay, S-Lay and derrick functions and will provide Petrofac with access to high-end turnkey opportunities in the high growth deepwater and SURF markets, and expand access to shallow water EPCI projects.

Many renowned industry suppliers are involved in the construction of this ship. Kongsberg Maritime from Norway has been selected by Petrofac as the nominated supplier and integrator of all electrical and control systems; IHC Engineering Business will deliver the 2,000 metric tonne (mt) J-Lay tower, while the 5,000 mt revolving main crane and four deck cranes will be supplied by National Oilwell Varco from the U.S.

The contract for  two deepwater 750 mt tonne winches has been awarded to the Italian supplier Remazel Engineering, while the 600 mt S-Lay tensioners and pipe handling equipment will be provided by another Italian firm, Remacut.

Petrofac has selected Lloyds Register Group as the nominated classification society for the JSD 6000 unit.
