Teekay’s second M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI)-Type LNG carrier began its service under a five-year charter agreement with Cheniere Energy on August 1.

The vessel has already lifted volumes from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG export facility and has already transited the expanded Panama Canal on August 21.

The 173,000-cbm Oak Spirit is Teekay’s second of nine LNG vessels with MEGI engines to be built at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in South Korea.

Teekay’s first MEGI LNG carrier Creole Spirit was delivered earlier this year and started shipping LNG under a five-year contract from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass liquefaction and export plant in Louisiana.
