Pipeshield Loads Out EA1 Second Phase Scour Protection

Pipeshield International Ltd has loaded out the second phase scour protection for the East Anglia One offshore wind farm in the UK.

Pipeshield manufactured and supplied more than 300 fronded concrete mattresses, which were loaded in stacks of six using the company’s high payload wet store bases.

Using the specialist system meant the fronded mattresses could be loaded horizontally without compromising the frond system as if lifted in multiples in any other way could cause damage, Pipeshield said.

According to the company, a total of 34 wet store bases were provided on the project.

Pipeshield won a contract by DeepOcean in February to supply the scour protection for the 714MW offshore wind farm. Shortly after, the Lowestoft-based company secured the deal to supply the second phase scour protection.

East Anglia One will comprise 102 Siemens 7MW turbines, currently being installed at the site 59km from the coast of Lowestoft. The 714MW offshore wind farm is scheduled to come into operation in 2020.
