Port Clarence Scheme Progressing

A Teesside business has manufactured flood defenses which will help protect itself and its local community in Port Clarence.

Wilton Engineering has fabricated the defenses which will act as a removable section of flood defense along the front of its site.

It is part of the Environment Agency’s £3 million flood alleviation scheme designed to lessen the flood risk to around 350 homes and 32 businesses.

Work on the scheme that has already been completed includes raising a 35-meter section of the road on the approach to the Transporter Bridge, which was previously a flooding issue, by around half a meter.

Flood embankments to the east and west of the Wilton site have also been constructed.

The Environment Agency, which is working closely with Stockton Borough Council, began building defenses at Port Clarence in March 2015, with work expected to be complete at the end of October.
