Qatar lures Pakistan with a lower LNG price

A deal between Qatar and Pakistan is in its final stages, especially after Qatar has lowered its asking price for LNG.

According to the Sui Southern Gas Company Managing Director, Shoaib Warsi, who spoke to the local media, Qatargas was looking for $18 per million British thermal units but the price has been cut to $14-$16.

He also noted that the market price for spot LNG purchases had come down to $10 in the market.

Warsi also said that a price committee was formed to negotiate with Qatargas and finalize terms and details of the agreement. The price for the LNG supply deal is expected to be set next month.

According to Pakistani’s The Express Tribune, the government is also in negotiations with Petronas for the supply of LNG.
