Qatargas sees bright future for LNG as fuel

Qatargas, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas producer, said on Tuesday that liquefied natural gas will be a “fuel of choice” in the marine sector.

LNG will be an increasingly attractive alternative to higher polluting and less reliable fuels, Qatargas CEO Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani told the World Gas Conference in Paris.

This also includes using LNG as fuel in the trucking, rail and mining sectors, Al-Thani added.

Qatargas is currently working with Nakilat and RasGas on converting the first Q-Max vessel to use LNG as an alternative to heavy fuel oil in the main engines.
