Race Bank Substation Jacket In Place (Gallery)

The jacket foundation for the Race Bank 01 offshore substation (OSS) was placed and fixed to the seabed at the offshore wind farm site on 15 March, with the 2,900t topside up next.

Engie Fabricom and Iemants, part of the Smulders group, sent off the substation from Hoboken in Belgium to the offshore construction site in the UK on 5 March.

The offshore works are carried out by Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL), which also installed Race Bank 02, the first substation at the site, in August 2016.

Iemants and Engie Fabricom have been in charge of delivering both offshore substations for the 580MW offshore wind project, which is planned to be completed in 2018.

Turbine installation is set to start by the end of April, with A2SEA’s Sea Installer already preparing for the work. At Race Bank, located off the North Norfolk coast, the vessel will erect 91 Siemens 6MW wind turbines.
