RCUK SSC Announces Hydrographic Services Tender (USA)

RCUK SSC Limited, on behalf of the British Geological Survey (BGS), announced tender for hydrographic services.

BGS, a component Research Centre of the Natural Environment Research Council, has a requirement for a marine geophysical and geotechnical pre-rig move site survey in the Gulf of Mexico, approx. 15 miles off the Yucatan coast.

The survey and the report need to be completed before 31.7.2013.

The survey work will support an internationally funded science project under the auspices of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Programme, which soon will be re-named to the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP).

The primary aim is to collect high quality marine geophysical data and sub-seabed samples to assess the suitability of installing a lift platform at 3 proposed drill sites.

Basic requirements: the pre-rig move site survey data to be collected must include the acquisition of marine geophysical data (sub-bottom profiling, side scan sonar, magnetometer profiling, water depth), vibrocore sampling to 20 feet below sea floor and cone penetration tests.

Data analysis is additionally required, including an assessment of the geophysical data for seabed and sub-seabed hazards, wrecks, obstructions, geotechnical parameters, and soil strength of the seabed samples.

The tenders must be submitted until 28 August, and the project is scheduled to last 30 days from the date of contract award, with the value between £500,000 and £1,000,000.
