UK-based RMS Submarine Ltd. and Germany’s eos projekt GmbH have recently provided consultancy and client representative support on behalf of Vattenfall Wind Power UK for Kentish Flats Extension (KFE).

RMS/eos were contracted between February and September 2015 and provided multiple services such as project documentation review, onshore mock-ups, cable factory witness/inspection/ reporting, inshore survey client representation, HIRA and meeting attendance, cable load out and vessel inspection client reps, offshore client reps during cable installation, Vertical Injection burial and subsea protection measures, offshore termination and testing client rep teams combined with all associated logistical and welfare support.

“We are extremely pleased that our initiative of combining resources demonstrated that collaborative associations have their place in today’s challenging market. This is the third such project undertaken by the RMS and eos projekt initiative to date,” a spokesperson for the RMS/eos projekt joint team said.

The Vattenfall KFE operations team handed over the project to their Operations & Maintenance department in early December 2015, ahead of schedule. KFE is on the southern side of the Outer Thames Estuary, located immediately adjacent to the Kentish Flats Offshore Wind Farm. The site boundaries adjoin the west and southern side of the existing wind farm and cover an area of approximately 7.8km².

The existing wind farm has been operational since 2005 and consists of 30 x 3MW wind turbines with a combined capacity of 90MW. KFE has a maximum installed capacity of 49.5MW and comprises of 15 x 3.3 MW turbines.

Sandra Hayes, Cables Installation Manager KFE for Vattenfall Wind Power, said: “Vattenfall valued the combined efforts of the RMS/eos projekt representatives and their supporting office staff. Both companies worked with Vattenfall’s Kentish Flats Extension Project Team and our contractor Bohlen & Doyen GmbH. The team worked very well throughout the planning and execution of KFE which resulted in a successful, high quality installation.”
