State-run Rosmorport could build an LNG bunkering vessel with a 3,000 to 5,000 cubic meters capacity in an effort to meet the stricter emissions caps beyond 2021.

During an industry conference, the Russian company’s head of the department of fleet development and construction, Vladimir Shtrambrand said that Rosmorport is also looking into the option of building a LNG-fueled icebreaker.

The bunker vessel would be constructed at Onezhsky shipyard with the hull of an unfinished project RST22.

Rosmorport is currently negotiating with three companies to provide bunkering activities with a contract soon to be signed, local media reported Shtrambrand as saying.

In addition to the bunker vessel, Rosmorport is considering building an icebreaker that would be equipped with a dual-fuel engine using liquefied natural gas as a secondary fuel.
