Rosneft denied access to gas pipeline on Sakhalin Island

An arbitration court on Sakhalin Island decided to refuse access to the Sakhalin 2 pipeline to Rosneft.

A company spokesman told Platts that Rosneft intends on lodging an appeal against the court ruling.

Rosneft intends to transport feedstock for its planned LNG plant on Sakhalin while Gazprom is reluctant to allow Rosneft access to the pipeline claiming there is no sufficient spare capacity for third parties.

The case is also being investigated by FAS, an anti-monopoly body, to see if Sakhalin Energy’s refusal to grant Rosneft access is an infringement of the legislation.
