Rotterdam Port Sees Second Largest Cocaine Haul

On Friday, November 28, Rotterdam port police discovered around 3,000 kilos of cocaine hidden in a container carrying cassava root from Costa Rica, the Dutch Public Prosecution Department (Openbaar Ministerie) said in a release.

The drugs separated in 3003 packages with a gross weight of 3,500 kilos, and an estimated street value of over EUR 120 million (USD 149m), have been destroyed.

The catch is the second largest ever in the port of Rotterdam. In 2005, more than 4,200 kilos of cocaine was found hidden in huge reels.

The HARC Team Rotterdam, a partnership of Customs, FIOD and Seaport Police, will with the guidance of the Dutch Public Prosecution further investigate the case.
