Rowan Resolute drillship sailing to its first contract

South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries has completed construction of yet another drillship.

The Ulsan-based shipyard has delivered the Rowan Resolute drillship, which in late July left South Korea.  The drillship is owned by the Houston-based drilling contractor Rowan Companies.

According to the Marine Traffic website, the Rowan Resolute is currently passing by Cape Town in South Africa and is now sailing towards the Walvis Bay in Namibia.

Once it leaves African waters the unit is expected to move to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, where it will start its drilling contract.

The three-year contract with Anadarko is scheduled to begin in early November 2014, with a dayrate set at $608.000.

The Rowan Resolute is the second drillship built for Rowan by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., with two more slated for delivery in October 2014, and March 2015 respectively.

The first drillship delivered was the Rowan Renaissance, currently deployed offshore Angola to drill the Locosso-1 well. Repsol plans to use the Rowan Renaissance for a controversial drilling campaign offshore the Canary Islands.
