Sabella’s Tidal Turbine Generates over 10MWh in 2 Months

Sabella’s tidal turbine, installed off the Ouessant Island in France, has generated more than 10MWh of electricity under actual operating conditions since it was connected in late September.

After its connection to the grid at the beginning of November, the tidal turbine was feeding power at 50 kilowatts, which was then gradually risen up to 100 kilowatts.

The next steps will aim to test the capabilities of the tidal turbine to maximize energy production and its injection in the Ouessant’s network, validate its operation in harsh winter conditions and to collect performance data for tidal certification.

Endurance and reliability of the machine will be subject to additional testing which will be carried out in 2016.
