Sail Away Ceremony for Zawtika Platform Held in Singapore

PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited, or PTTEP, held a sail away ceremony for Zawtika Processing and Living Quarters Platform (ZPQ) on October 5, 2013 in Singapore.

After the ceremony, the ZPQ will be sailed away from SMOE Pte. Ltd.’s construction yard in Singapore to its destination at the Zawtika field in the Gulf of Mottama, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Upon completion, it is expected to produce natural gas and supply to Myanmar and Thailand.

H.E. U Zay Yar Aung, Minister of Energy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, jointly presided over the sail-away ceremony with Dr. Norkun Sitthiphong, Chairman of the Board of Director of PTTEP. Honorable guests were welcomed by  Tevin Vongvanich, President and Chief Executive Officer of PTTEP, and other executives from all parties.

H.E. U Zay Yar Aung, expressed his gratitude at the ceremony, “I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to PTTEP, an operator of the Zawtika project who demonstrates the professionalism in business operation with concern for Corporate Social Responsibility both in the operating area and other parts of the country. The gas production from this project will fulfill part of domestic natural gas requirement. Therefore this project is very important for Energy sector and also for the development of Myanmar”.

First gas of the Zawtika Project is expected by the end of 2013 with targeted production rate of 345 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of natural gas.

Dr. Norkun Sitthiphong said “Zawtika Project is very important, not just in terms of its scale, by being one of the largest developments in the South East Asia, but also because of the boost it will provide to the domestic gas production at a time of economic growth and the increasing energy demand in both Myanmar and Thailand.”

On additional note, Tevin Vongvanich reaffirmed his confidence in the Zawtika Project, “ZPQ is amongst the largest in South East Asia, which is considerably the first large scale offshore gas field discovery and development that PTTEP operates overseas. It employs modern technology that is second to none, to ensure that our facilities are of the highest possible standard currently used in the E&P industry, without compromising the aspect of safety, health and environmental concerns. In addition, the development period of ZPQ also ranks among the fastest, compared to other global projects of similar size.”

ZPQ is an integrated platform which combined both natural gas processing facilities and living quarters into a single platform. Its topside weighs 16,500 metric ton (MT) and was designed and constructed over a period of 28 months. In addition, ZPQ has already achieved a remarkable 9,500,000 man-hours without any lost time incident (LTI).

The Zawtika Project is approximately 300 km south of Yangon and 290 km west of Tavoy (Dawei), Myanmar. PTTEP International Limited (PTTEPI), a subsidiary company of PTTEP, is the operator with 80% interest, whilst its joint venture partner is Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) with 20% interest. Development phase 1A consists of ZPQ, 3 wellhead platforms, intra-field sealines, offshore and onshore gas export pipeline to connect to the PTT gas pipeline at Ban-I-Tong, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand-Myanmar border.
