Saipem: Search Ongoing for Worker Missing in Rig Sinking Incident (Angola)

Saipem: Search Still Ongoing for Worker Missing in Rig Sinking Incident (Angola)

Italy’s Saipem has announced that the search for the person, missing since the Perro Negro 6 rig sinking, is still underway.

The company, in a press release issued last night, said that the search for the worker “of Bulgarian nationality, is currently under way and being carried out by the emergency authorities.”

Saipem further said that monitoring of the wreck has shown no evidence of any type of spillage.

To remind, the incident occurred on July 1st when the jack up drilling rig Perro Negro 6, which was operating between the coasts of Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, near the mouth of the Congo River, capsized and sank.

One of the jack-up rig’s three legs collapsed, causing the rig to suddenly tilt and start taking water. The incident, according to Saipem, occurred during the rig positioning on location between the coasts of Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, in approximately 40 meters of water. 6 crew members have sustained minor injuries. At approximately 10:30 am CET, the rig, with no personnel on board, capsized and sank.
