Santos names new directors

Adelaide-based Santos informed on Wednesday that Peter Hearl and Guy Cowan will be appointed to the Santos Board as independent non-executive directors.

Santos chairman, Peter Coates said in a statement the new appointments, part of the board’s renewal process, will follow the retirements of Ken Dean and Jane Hemstritch at the conclusion of the AGM.

Hearl and Cowan will both be appointed to the audit and risk committee, the statement reads.

Peter Hearl is currently the director of Telstra Corporation Limited and a director of Treasury Wine Estates Limited, with over 30 years experience in operating and development roles, including 18 years in the oil and gas industry with Exxon.

Guy Cowan, a director of UGL Limited, brings also over 30 years of experience in the international commercial and finance roles, including 25 years in the oil and gas industry with Shell, Santos added.

He was chief financial officer and director, Shell Oil US, from 2003 to 2005, and chief financial officer and commercial director, Shell Nigeria, from 2000 to 2003. He was also chief financial officer of Fonterra Co-operative Group from 2005 to 2009.

Additionally, from 1992 to 1005, Cowan was a Shell-appointed alternate director of Woodside Petroleum, Santos said.
