SCF Names Fourth Atlanticmax LNG Carrier

Russia’s maritime shipping company Sovcomflot (SCF) held a naming ceremony for its fourth Atlanticmax LNG Carrier SCF Mitre at South Korea’s STX Offshore & Shipbuilding shipyard.

The 172,000 cbm SCF Mitre will start the previously agreed long-term charter with Royal Dutch Shell by the end of April, joining its sister-ship SCF Melampus, which started operating in January this year.

The ship is the third in a series of ultra-modern LNG carriers designed to perform regular, year-round shipments of liquefied natural gas.

The first two ships in the series, the Velikiy Novgorod and Pskov, are already successfully operating under long-term contracts with Gazprom.

The features of the new Atlanticmax LNG tanker include triple-fuel diesel electric propulsion plant, which is intended to ensure its effective operation in Arctic conditions.
