Scotrenewables Tidal Power has informed its SR2000 tidal turbine reached over 1.5GWh of cumulative generation since last deployment.

The SR2000 hit the newest generation milestone on its 200th consecutive day of deployment at the European Marine Energy Centre’s (EMEC) Fall of Warness grid-connected tidal test site.

The floating tidal turbine, hosting two 1MW turbines with a 16-meter rotor diameter for each one, was first deployed at EMEC in October 2016.

It was then retrieved in 2017 for minor repair works and redeployed in August the same year to proceed with the grid-connected testing program Scotrenewables in conducting at EMEC.

During the period, the turbine managed to maintain continuous generation in sea states of over 4-meter significant wave height and 2MW rated power in 2-meter waves – demonstrating its capability of generating through around 99% of conditions experienced at the Orkney site, Scotrenewables said earlier.

The Orkney-based developer plans to continue with the testing activities at EMEC throughout this year.
