Serbia to Give South Stream National Status

The Serbian government plans to grant the national project status to the construction of the Serbian section of the South Stream gas pipeline before the end of January.

The government has already written up a draft law associated with giving the South Stream project the status of a national project,” Serbia’s Finance and Economics Minister, Mladjan Dinkic, said in a statement.

According to him, the decision will be taken this month. The Minister stressed that the South Stream is strategically important to Serbia.

Giving South Stream a national project status will give a number of benefits to the future construction. In particular, this will pave the way for the expropriation of land for the pipeline.
