Sevan Drilling Informs on Small Mud Leak from Sevan Driller BOP

Sevan Driller Mud Leak Brazil

Sevan Drilling, a drilling contractor based in Norway, today announced that its Sevan Driller rig has completed drilling on its present location in Brazil.

Upon unlatching the blow-out preventer (“BOP”) a small flow of mud from the well was observed by the remote operating vehicle.

The small flow caused by a leak in the casing packoff did not cause any damage to rig personnel, equipment or environment, and the BOP was latched back to the wellhead. The packoff was sealed and the well is now secure and there is no more flow of mud from the well.

The incident will result in down time in the range of 4-5 days for the rig.

“Sevan Driller is already back in operation,” said the drilling contractor in a press release.

In June 2010, Sevan Driller was the world’s first cylindrical drilling rig to commence operation. The rig is currently operating under a six year contract for Petrobras S.A.
