Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Snags Cape Quartet

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) and Zhejing Herun Group have entered into a contract for the construction of four 180,000 dwt bulk carriers.

With the price tag of $216 million ($54m apiece) this investment represents a major milestone for the Herun Group.

The vessels will be designed as a single screw, slow speed diesel engine driven, ocean going bulkers. The vessels will have one complete flush upper deck with forecastle and stem, a transom stern and open water type of stern frame, a semi-balanced rudder, mewis duct and a fixed pitch propeller directly driven by a slow speed diesel engine.

All accommodations including navigation bridge and propulsion machinery will be located aft.

Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2016.
