SOCAR Georgia Gas Ltd Gasifies Poti City

On January 24, SOCAR Georgia Gas Ltd opened the first section of gas pipeline constructed in Poti city of Georgia.

The event was attended by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri, Mayor of Poti Vakhtang Lemonjava, governor of Samegrelo Region Zaza Goroziya, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev, other officials of SOCAR, as well as management of SOCAR representative office in Georgia.

The 6,8 km pipeline covers 9 residential corpuses and private properties. 707 potential consumers will be supplied with gas via this pipeline.

The event is very momentous as Poti city hasn’t ever been supplied with natural gas before. Gasification of the city will stimulate its socio-economic development.

The role of SOCAR and its affiliated companies in gasification of Georgia was highly estimated by the attendees of the ceremony.

While constructing the pipeline, SOCAR Georgia Gas has used polyethylene pipes. This will extend the pipeline’s run life.

Totally, 150 km gas pipeline is planned to be constructed in Poti city. 17 000 consumers and 174 facilities will be supplied with gas as a result of this project.

According to SOCAR’s 3-year investment program, more than 500 km (more than 40 000 potential consumers) gas pipelines are planned to be constructed in Samegrelo region, as well as 1,500 km pipelines (more than 150 000 consumers) across Georgia.
