‘Songa Endurance’ arrives in Norway. Preparing for Statoil contract

Songa Offshore, an offshore drilling contractor, has informed that its second Cat D drilling rig, Songa Endurance, arrived in Norway on December 3, 2015.

The rig was expected to arrive in Norway in late November.

According to the drilling contractor’s latest fleet status report, Songa Endurance has arrived and it is currently preparing for the Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) and the client’s Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP).

It is one of four rigs specifically built for and contracted to the Norwegian oil and gas major Statoil. It has an eight-year firm contract plus 4×3 year options.

The company took delivery of the rig from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in August 2015.

Songa Offshore’s first Cat D drilling rig, Songa Equinox, started its eight-year contract with Statoil on Monday, December 7, 2015. The rig is operating on the Troll field, offshore Norway.

The drilling contractor has two more Cat D rigs ordered with DSME. However, the two are in a dispute over cost overruns during the construction of the first two rigs.
