RasGas, HHI Celebrate Progress of Barzan Gas Project

A high level delegation from RasGas of Qatar recently met with their counter-parts in Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) to mark the progression of the Offshore Construction Phase of the Barzan Gas Project in Ulsan, South Korea.

RasGas’ delegation was led by the Managing Director, Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi and included Venture Group Manager, Nafez Bseiso, and Marketing Group Manager, Khalid Al Kuwari while HHI’s representatives included Chief Executive Officer, J. S. Lee, and Chief Operating Officer, C. J. Kang.

Commenting on the importance of the Project, Al Mohannadi said: “Being one of the leaders in the energy industry, RasGas has been entrusted with the development of the Barzan Gas Project, one of the largest gas infrastructure projects in the region, which is expected to process approximately 2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day by the year 2015. The RasGas and HHI project teams will continue to work closely together to progress the Offshore Project to its conclusion.”

During the visit, the RasGas delegation took the opportunity to also meet with the 8 Qatari nationals who are attached to the project team in Ulsan. Speaking from South Korea, Bseiso underlined the significance of their involvement in the project, saying: “Giving the Qatari nationals the opportunity to be part of this development programme and encouraging them to take an active role in the execution of the strategic Barzan Project is yet a further step forward to demonstrate the Company’s firm commitment to the development of our national employees, enabling them to enhance their skills and experience on all fronts. They are all making a significant contribution and adding value to this strategic project. Their development and enhancing their skills and capabilities is fully in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and under the wise direction of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, and through the support of His Excellency Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, Chairman of RasGas.”

As part of the Barzan Gas Project, the Offshore Project comprises the wellhead platforms and pipelines required to deliver gas to the Onshore Plant located in Ras Laffan Industrial City. The wells and offshore facilities are considered one of the largest in the North Field. HHI was awarded the main EPC contract in January 2011 and commenced the engineering phase in Malaysia and Singapore. During the first quarter of this year, the project progressed to the Construction phase with fabrication in Ulsan, South Korea and installation in Qatar.
