Two New Seabreeze Wind Turbine Installation Ships Face Construction Delays

German power company “RWE Innogy” confirmed a six-month delay for two new ‘Seabreeze’ wind turbine installation ships recently. The ships are being constructed at South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding yard.

There have been quality problems with the hydraulic jack-up system during the final inspections and it needs to be replaced by the supplier,” Hans Bunting, RWE’s CFO, pointed out. He also said “The vessels, priced about €100 mln ($132 mln) each, would be transported by heavy-lift carriers from South Korea to Germany. The first one was expected to arrive at the end of this week, the next one about two weeks later. RWE had already a claim with Daewoo about the delay, and did express the dissatisfaction with the suppliers whose partial parts failed to meet the requirement of the contract.”

Hans Bunting refused to comment on financial damage incurred but explained that RWE can completely accommodate the problem which may arise from the delay.
