South Korea: Two Workers Killed After Fire at HHI Shipyard

A fire broke out yesterday at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea, killing two people and injuring two more who were working on the dock, according to local media reports.

The fire started at 4:04 p.m. at HHI’s No. 5 dock which is used to construct liquefied petroleum gas carriers. HHI was building an 84,000-ton LPG carrier that was due to be finished next month, Korea’s JoongAng Daily reported.

The official cause of the fire is still not known, but the Ulsan Fire Department suspects it started when workers were welding heat insulation materials or nearby parts.
