Siport21′s Simulation Center Received 72 Seafarers Last Year

Last year, Siport21′s Real-Time Ship Manoeuvring Simulation Center has received 72 seafarers (Captains, Pilots and Tug Masters), who have developed Training Programs or participated in specific projects. In some cases, they have taken part in order to obtain their perception and contribution regarding new maritime operations.

During 2012 the company carried out 19 Training Programs for maritime personnel of 12 shipping and maritime agencies from 8 different countries. Some of them have a high international recognition: BP Shipping, Transportadora Maritima Mexicana, Knutsen OAS España, Northern Marine Management, NYK, Elcano, Teekay, Shell, MOL, VShips, MISC, Kline and Exmar. The majority of this shipping companies contracted Siport21 for training their Captains and Chief Officers in the access to LNG Terminals Mega and Escobar (Argentina).

In these cases, seafarers participated in one or two training sessions, coordinated by Siport21′s Captain and supported by the technical staff of the company. The content of the sessions included an explanation about the project, the manoeuvring areas and how the Real Time Simulator works. Later, seafarers developed standard and emergency manoeuvres in a model of their own vessel, built for this purpose to the client.

On the other hand, this year Pilots from the ports of Tarragona (Spain), Manzanillo and Altamira (Mexico), Sao Marcos Bay (Brazil) and El Callao (Peru) have collaborated in simulation projects, together with, Tug Masters from SAAM and Refesa, Reyser Group.

Siport21 Real-Time Simulator Center is DNV approved, (Det Norske Veritas), which gathers STCW Convention requirements (“Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers”), for the execution of port designs studies (port approach of vessels manoeuvring under different physical and environmental conditions for the adequate layout design of the port, the approach channel and the manoeuvring zones). The certificate is also valid for Pilots, Captains and Officers education and training, either in a basic level or for specialised, advanced or retraining courses.
