- Business & Finance
With a sail away celebration, Royal Caribbean International’s (RCI) new ship, the Harmony of the Seas, departed on its maiden voyage from the vessel’s new permanent homeport of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on November 5, 2016.
The cruise ship joined its sister ships, the Oasis of the Seas and the Allure of the Seas, on the east coast of Florida.
RCI said the Harmony of the Seas will offer seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, sailing from the islands of the Caribbean to the shores of Mexico.
The Harmony of the Seas spans 16 guest decks and encompasses 226,963 gross registered tons.
Built at STX France shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, the ship officially joined Royal Caribbean’s fleet in a delivery and flag changing ceremony held in May this year.
The Harmony of the Seas is the first in a new generation of ships where architectural innovations of the Oasis class are combined with technologies of the Quantum class.
The Harmony is bigger than Royal Caribbean’s two other ships from the Oasis class which makes it the largest cruise ship in the world.
