SPX: Statoil Hires ClydeUnion Pumps for AESP Project (UK)

Statoil ASA has employed the services of SPX’s ClydeUnion Pumps as prime contractor in the development of the next generation Advanced Electrical Submersible Pump (AESP).

The AESP will be designed to address the offshore oil and gas industry’s increasingly challenging operating conditions. During the upcoming SPE Gulf Coast ESP Workshop, April 24-26, Statoil will deliver a technical paper titled ‘Development of Advanced Electric Submersible Pumps to Meet Today’s Challenges.’ The paper describes an initiative underway to redesign the current submersible pump machinery arrangements to eliminate many of the key failure modes and address deployment and retrievability inside the production tubing.

This ambitious R&D effort pursues radical improvement of electrical submersible pump runtime and efficiency. The AESP will be designed to maximize recovery factors in mature offshore fields (NCS) and in newly developed deepwater areas, and enable ever greater step-out distances to access deeper reservoirs and challenging reservoir conditions.
