Colombo Dockyard Completes Repairs on Mt. Mariann

Thome Ship Management, Singapore managed Mt. Mariann (Dwt 77,043), owned by Marinevest Shipping, Sweden was placed in Colombo for drydocking and lay up repairs during end February 2013.

Colombo was the best option for the owners/ managers given the strategic location placing the vessel closer to her next loading port in India. The good track record of Colombo especially for speedy turnaround and quality workmanship, coupled with MT. Kirsten repairs that were carried out successfully during January 2011, played a role when managers selected the yard for laying up this massive product tanker.

The tanker was accommodated in the 125,000 DWT drydock for her repair requirements, prior to drydocking she was accommodated at yard’s alongside pier.

The work package to be carried out during this call consisted of: Routine drydocking repairs; Hull blasting and painting; Introduction of additional strengthening and modifying deck longitudinal frames to avoid generating cracks (9~10 tons of high tensile steel plates used for this modification); Introducing new frequency converters for engine room fans and sea water pumps in order to improve fuel consumption, fabrication and installation of sludge tank of 2.5 cum with all pipes, fittings and attachments and installation; Strengthening of the main mast by introducing new wire stays; Introducing additional stiffeners to radar mast and improve the strength and rigidity; Modification of various pipe lines and overhauling of plate and tube type coolers, valves and electrical motors.

The repairs were carried out meeting the DNV classification society requirements and owners / Ship management representatives’ requirements.

The attending superintendent was Mr. R.Muralidhar, while Mr. Darshan Gaur, Fleet Group Manager overlooked the project. Mr. Fredrik Stubner, Director Ship Management – Marinevest were present during the initial phase of the repair. The local agents GAC Shipping Ltd. handled the husbanding work during this call.
