Statoil gains nod to modify Sleipner for Utgard connection

Norwegian oil company Statoil has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to make modifications at Sleipner A and T to connect to the Utgard field, in the North Sea.

Utgard is a gas and condensate field situated on the boundary between the Norwegian and UK sectors of the North Sea. The largest section of the field is in block 15/8 on the Norwegian shelf, around 21 kilometers from Sleipner.

The Sleipner area embraces the gas and condensate fields Sleipner Øst, Gungne and Sleipner Vest.

Earlier this week, Statoil’s plan for development and operation for the Utgard as well as Byrding field was approved by the authorities. The capital expenditures for the Utgard field are projected at about NOK 3,5 billion.

The field will be developed using a subsea well template. The wellstream will be piped to Sleipner for processing. Production on the field is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The PSA has now given Statoil consent to make the necessary modifications to the Sleipner A and T platforms in order to receive and process the wellstream from Utgard.
