Statoil Shuts Oseberg Field Centre

Norwegian oil company Statoil yesterday closed production from its Oseberg field centre after an emergency siren had been triggered, Reuters has reported.

Statoil’s spokesperson notified the news agency that “oil was observed on deck of the platform” and that the case needed to be investigated before the production could be back online.

The Oseberg Field Centre in the North Sea is located 140 km (87 mi) northwest of the city of Bergen on the southwestern coast of Norway.

The Oseberg Field Centre includes three platforms, Oseberg A, B and D, connected to one another with bridges, in the southern part of the Oseberg field, and the Oseberg C platform, which lies 14 kilometres north of the field centre. The spokesperson told Reuters that all the Oseberg facilities “are down at the moment”.
