Statoil to use ‘Deepsea Atlantic’ for Gullfaks Sør ops

The Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has given Statoil Petroleum AS (Statoil) consent to use the Deepsea Atlantic semi-submersible drilling rig for drilling and well operations at Gullfaks Sør in North Sea.

Gullfaks Sør lies due south of the Gullfaks field in the northern part of the North Sea.

The field has been developed using a total of 12 subsea templates tied back to the Gullfaks A and Gullfaks C.

The consent covers production drilling and work on existing production wells, in addition to permanent plugging and abandonment of three exploration wells.

Deepsea Atlantic is a semi-submersible drilling facility of the MODU GVA 7500 type. The rig is operated by Odfjell Drilling AS. Deepsea Atlantic was completed in 2009, is registered in Norway and is classified by DNV GL.
