Stormy Weather Claims Another Freighter in Black Sea

Some 25 nautical miles (NM) off the place where Russian ship Volgo Balt 199 sank yesterday, a cargo ship BBC Adriatic was caught by storm and got stranded on the same day, the Maritime Bulletin reports.

A German cargo ship BBC Adriatic was washed out ashore by high swells near Kumkoy, west of Istanbul Strait. There is no information about whether the crew remained on board or whether they are evacuated. To help the beached vessel to float again an emergency response team sent salvage tugs to the scene.

The latest information about the Russian sunken ship’s crew brought by BBC referring to the statement of Turkey’s Transport Minister Binali Yildirim, is that four crew members were saved from the ship and one was found dead. The Minister also said that the rescue effort was operating in difficult conditions.

Two members of the rescue team have died during the search for the seven missing crew members. Reportedly, a rescue boat with five people on board sank after it hit rocks. Three members of the rescue team are still missing.
