Stornoway Development Plan Includes Dredging

The Stornoway Port Authority has invited bidders to submit their offers for the Newton Basin development project.

The scheme will consist of a significant amount of dredging works, aimed to create a navigation channel, pontoons for berthing and storage for up to 70 vessels, along with rock armoring protection to the pontoons and areas that are to be reclaimed for new hard standing, the authority said in its announcement.

The deadline for submitting the bids is August 18, 2017 and the estimated construction value is £6 million.

Stornoway is situated 30 miles off the north-west coast of Scotland. It is the main seaport of the Hebridean Islands and provides a vital link to mainland Britain.

The port is the main entry/exit point for all goods imported to and exported from the island.
