STX Finland and TUI Cruises Celebrate Two Milestones

Finnish shipyard STX Finland Oy, Turku and TUI Cruises celebrated, on May 24th, the keel-laying ceremony of TUI Cruises’ new vessel the Mein Schiff 3 and steel cutting ceremony of Mein Schiff 4.

Following long held shipbuilding tradition, coins were placed on one of the keel blocks, the event was witnessed by representatives of TUI Cruises, STX Finland, the classification society Det Norske Veritas together with other invited guests.

The sophisticated and highly innovative GT 99,300 cruise ships will be approx. 294 metres long and approx. 36 metres wide. The ships will have 1,250 staterooms, serve 2,500 passengers and have a crew of 1,000 persons. The cruise ships will have many environmentally friendly features, with a particular emphasis on the vessel’s energy efficiency.

STX Finland said that the ships will consume roughly 30% less energy compared to other cruise ships of similar size.

Mein Schiff 3 is scheduled for delivery in spring 2014 and Mein Schiff 4 one year later.
