STX Offshore Wins USD 608 Mln in Newbuild Orders

A Korea-based company STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. has secured orders reaching 682.2 billion won ($608 million) for constructing six tankers and two LNG carriers from Europe, reports Reuters.

The name of the ship operators remains unknown however it has been revealed that the LNG carrier contract will be terminated in January 2015 and the tanker contract in November 2013.

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd is one of world’s leading shipbuilders. The Company’s product portfolio consists of tankers, container ships, bulk carriers, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, very large crude carriers (VLCCs), pure car carriers, pure truck carriers and naval vessels. The Company is also engaged in the provision of ship components such as deck houses and diesel engines, and plant engineering services including procurement, feasibility study and construction. The Company is a subsidiary of STX Corporation. The Company acquired 100% of HYUK SHIN MACHINERY CO.LTD, a Korea-based manufacturer of ship blocks, on January 15, 2011.
