Subsea Innovation Wraps Up 10th Pipeline Repair Clamp Project

Subsea Innovation said it has completed testing on its 10th pipeline repair clamp in the last 9 months.

The clamps form part of an ’emergency pipeline repair system’ (EPRS), that are supplied complete with a releasable hydraulically activated tensioning system. The spreads also included adaptable installation tools, suitable for the full range of pipeline diameters.

The EPRS are being prepared for delivery to some of the largest oil & gas projects currently in operation, as part of six-figure contracts. The systems will be stored to act as contingency in the event that the pipelines transporting the line contents need to be repaired.

The 10 systems cover pipelines across a range of diameters between: 16” and 44”. The company believes that completion of these projects will establish it as a major player in the EPRS arena.

The equipment was designed and manufactured at the company’s headquarters, Innovation House, situated on the Faverdale Industrial Estate near Darlington.

The designs have been tested to DNV pipeline tolerances at up to 435bar.g and are suitable for operating temperatures ranging from 0 – 160° C. The design and build process has been monitored and certified to the exacting standards of DNV.

These clamps have attained product certification from DNV and Subsea Innovation is said to be in the process of attaining Type Approval for emergency pipeline repair clamps from them also. When this scope of work is complete Subsea Innovation will be the only company in the world to hold such type approval for its repair clamps, the company noted.

Managing director, Dave Thompson, said: “It is a phenomenal achievement to have completed the volume of work to such a high standard in such a short period of time. It is great testament to our staff and our supply chain who have all pulled together to produce some of the largest repair clamps in the world from our North East base.”
