Talisman Begins Frode Drilling (Norway)

Canada’s oil and gas exploration an production company Talisman Energy has kicked off drilling at the Frode prospect in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The well, which is situated in the production licence 299, approximately 16 km south-east of the Gyda field, was spudded on Friday, as announced by North Energy which owns a share in the area.

The operator, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, is using the Maersk Giant ultra harsh environment jack-up rig for the well 2/1-16 S. The rig was built by Hitachi in 1986, refurbished in 2012.

Talisman Energy Norge AS is the operator with an ownership interest of 31.5 per cent. The other licensees are Agora Oil & Gas AS with 28.5 per cent, Dong E & P Norge AS 20 per cent and North Energy ASA 20 per cent.

North Energy signed a purchase and sale agreement on 3 May with Spike Exploration Holding AS covering the sale of a 10 per cent holding in PL 299. This deal is awaiting government approval.
