Tallink Grupp on Tuesday said its unit Tallink Line has taken delivery of the LNG-fueled fast passenger ferry Megastar from Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

The 212 meters long Megastar has the capacity to transport 2800 passengers and features a car deck for 800 passenger vehicles.

It is equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of running on liquefied natural gas and marine diesel oil, with LNG being used as the main fuel.

The ship has a service speed of 27 knots and will operate in existing Tallink Shuttle service schedule on Tallinn-Helsinki route, replacing the fast ferry Superstar. It is scheduled to begin service on January 29.

The vessel’s construction cost €230 million (Approx: US$247.2 million) and was co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) with €4.8 million.

The purchase is financed with a loan of €184 million from the Finnish Export Credit, arranged by Nordea Bank Finland.
