Teekay’s first MEGI LNG carrier starts sea trials

Teekay Corporation revealed that its newly built LNG carrier Creole Spirit has sailed out from the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard for sea trials.

Creole Spirit is Teekay’s first of nine LNG newbuildings equipped with dual fuel two stroke M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) twin engines from MAN Diesel & Turbo, Teekay said in a statement.

The construction of the 174 000 cbm capacity Creole Spirit started in March with the vessel’s launching taking place in May.

It is expected to enter service in January 2016 on a contract charter with Cheniere.
