Teekay’s Randgrid FSO reaches Gina Krog field

Teekay’s recently converted floating storage and offloading vessel Randgrid has reached its final offshore location – the Gina Krog field in the North Sea.

The vessel, to be used at the Statoil-operated field, had left the yard in Mejarvik last Thursday, and, according to a Teekay spokesperson, has now safely arrived at the oil and gas field, located 250 kilometers west of Stavanger and 30 kilometers north-west of the Sleipner A platform in the North Sea.

The vessel will now undergo final preparations and hook-up before starting the Statoil charter at the Gina Krog field,

Earlier this month, the FSO had to be evacuated while docked in Mekjarvik, following a fire outbreak in the engine room.

Teekay has said that the fire alarm was triggered by a small fire in the engine room that was extinguished immediately. There were no injuries and no major damages.

The Randgrid, converted from a shuttle tanker by Sembcorp Marine in Singapore, will be used to store oil from the field which also produces gas.

Initially thought to be only a small size gas discovery made in 1974, the Gina Krog field proved oil in 2007 and 2008.

The Gina Krog is developed via a platform tied in to Sleipner A platform, and uses both processing capacity on the platform and existing pipelines for sending the gas to the market in Europe. Oil from the field is meant to be transported by the Rangrid FSO.
