Tepco receives 2500th cargo at Higashi-Ogishima LNG terminal

Japan’s largest utility, Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) recently reached a milestone with the 2,500th LNG delivery to its East Ogishima thermal power plant.

The cargo was delivered to the company’s Higashi-Oghishima LNG terminal, aboard the MOL-managed 135,000 cbm Al Zubarah LNG carrier from Qatar’s Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas complex at the end of April.

Tepco said in a brief statement that, since the first delivery in January of 1984, 143 million tons of liquefied natural gas have been delivered to the nearby thermal power plants.

Under the agreement signed in June 2012 with Qatargas, Tepco imports 1 million tons of LNG per year from Qatar, which is equal to 100 percent of terminal’s annual capacity.
